Immune System And You

The Immune System is a complex network of specialized blood cells and organs that defend the body against attacks by foreign invaders. When functioning properly, it fights infectious agents such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. When it malfunctions, however, we become vulnerable to a torrent of diseases, from allergies to arthritis, and even certain cancers.

The immune system, as much as any other body system, depends upon good, all-around nutrition. It is one of the first systems to be affected by undue physical and emotional stress, but bounces back quickly if nutrition is complete and general health is good.

Critical nutrients on which the immune system depends can be include vitamin C, folic acid, beta carotene, and the minerals manganese, selenium, and zinc, protein intake.

Additionally, for those who has low immune use "qi/chi" (energy) Chinese enhancing herbs like Ginseng (American, Korean, Chinese, Siberian), Astragalus, Reishi Mushroom, Green Tea to strengthen the immune system.

Reishi Mushroom Benefits

Reishi Mushroom (Ganoderma) is Asian's secret "Herbs of Immortarity". It is known to improve body's healing ability, boost energy, promote longevity, strengthen the immune system, anti-oxidant, anti-allergy, anti-aging, anti-inflammation, anti-tumor and traditionally used in Chinese medicine with other herbs for cancer treatments.

Ganoderma is a medicinal red , brown or black mushroom known as Ling Zhi China, Linh Chi in Viet Nam, Reshi in Japan and Young Zhi in Korea.

Other medicinal names: GADODERMA LUCIDUM, EUCOMMIA ULMOIDES OLIV

Ganoderma contains the following chemical components: Organic Germanium: Helps to enhance the ability of blood stream to take in oxygen. Increases metabolism and has positive effects on the aging process. Strengthens immune system, improves blood circulation, boosts body energy, detoxifies the body.

Polysaccharides: Reduce high cholesterol, neutralizes fats, strengthens immune system and suppresses cellular damage.

Triterpenes: Known as Lingzhi acid, it helps to improve gastro-intestinal function, for anti-allergy, anti-inflammation and anti-tumor.

Adenosine Monophosphate: Maintains normal blood pressure, dissolves thrombus and removes blood vessel blockage.

Superoxide Dismutase: Anti-oxidant, anti-free radicals, anti-aging and boost red cell growth.

Astragalus Benefits

The Chinese use Astragalus to protect the body from fever, colds, and flu; multiple infections and allergies; fatigue, wounds and anemia; stomach ulcers, uterine bleeding, and prolapsed uterus. Moreover, this plant can promote the discharge of urine, lower blood pressure, improve overall heart function, and treat digestive disorders (diarrhea, gas, bloating).

Chinese studies indicate that astragalus may ameliorate the effects of cancer chemotherapy and improve the quality of life. Astragalus root appears to induce production of interferon, a chemical that is an essential part of the immune system and has been widely studied for its ability to fight the development of cancer. In-vitro and rodent studies conducted in America support the assertion that astragalus root can enhance the immune system.

Astragalus root is derived from a perennial plant that grows in northern China and Mongolia. The herb is a staple of Chinese medicine, where it has been used for centuries to boost the immune system and treat a variety of ailments.

The major chemical components of astragalus root are polysaccharides, flavonoids saponins and a series of triterpene glycosides known as "astragalosides". Some of these are known to be biologically active, and may play roles in preventing/treating certain diseases.

Astragalus is also a mild diuretic, and increases natiuresis (sodium excretion). It may even prove useful for treating insulin resistance and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Green Tea Benefits

Americans are beginning to realize what Eastern cultures have known for thousands of years.

This new drink is a special kind of tea. And it's been to significantly reduce the effects of carcinogens in laboratory in mice. It slowed the development of skin cancer in mice exposed to UV radiation. It helps slow or prevent the formation of stomach and lung cancer tumor in mice. And in one study, using one of the most potent carcinogens in cigarette smoke, mice given this type of tea developed 45% fewer lung cancer tumors.

In Japan, the dead rate from lung cancer is much lower than in the United States. Even the average cigarette consumption among men in Japan is much higher.

Statistical studies show that Japanese people who drink a lot of green tea lower rates of all types of cancer, and especially stomach cancer.

Scientists currently believe that the active ingredients that may be responsible for the anticarcino effect are the group of polyphenols called catechins. Dry black tea, like your ordinary grocery tea contain 35-105 catechins. Oolong tea contains a little bit more 8%-20%. Green tea, however contains a lot more. A full 30-42% of the dry weight of green tea consists of catechins.

Green tea is heated with dry air or team, and this destroys the enzyme in the leaves that allows the polyphenols to oxidize. So they remain in the leaves to benefit mankind (we hope) and laboratory mice.
